was lacy & I think it might have belonged to Eva Peron. I still have it."

END 0f APRIL : (this from 2006...2007 coming up quickly!)...
The Walter Mitty weekend (30th annual) at Road Atlanta, sanctioned by
the Historic Sports-car Association, sponsored by Classic Motorsports
magazine and, this year, again, Mazda!
UPDATE, MAY 1:
The trip to Atlanta was great! 1,005 miles over 48 hour weekend: whoever says the
Miata doesn't qualify as long-distance transport is mistaken! (Though not the
best for sleeping in at rest-stops!). Keeping up with (or past) 80-90 mph traffic,
Nashville, the Smokies, Chattanooga, no problem!
Then there was Road Atlanta itself: 80 or so Miatas, some RX-8s, couple of RX-3,
RX-7s: most stock & street-modified, some race-ready and waiting to compete on
the track!
Kumho Tire had a set of four MINI Coopers at the far end of the in-field on an
autocross track: free sessions behind the wheel, testing the grip of their
performance tires...the challenge: never use the brakes!
Sunday: multiple laps of the 2.54 mile road-racing track by a parade of Japanese
sportscars...led by an RX-8 pace car, speeds were held to a safe level on the
straights, in the interest of safety for the non-racing equipped street cars;
but...hanging back from the car in front, approaching the curves and turns, a
driver could accelerate at max, searching for the proper line, clipping the apex
and drifting through, then flat-out to the end of the next straight!
Also, while multiple races of vintage & historic sportscars took place on the
surrounding track, we met people from Miata clubs from D.C., Alabama,
Georgia...had a chance to inspect Ferarris, Maseratis, Alfas, MGs & Triumphs,
Jags & Lotus, as well as the Z-Club of Georgia's collection, in a paddock with
SEROC's early-'60's Datsun roadsters!...Steve has one for sale...research the
model!
The Squadron was also, as member & guest, present at South Eastern Roadster
Owners Club annual dinner & awards...great fun, and an example to the
Squadron in what can be achieved in membership efforts! Many thanks to Brad
Holmes and all the great SEROC people!
If you can plan a get-a-way to a future Mitty, you'll find a great introduction to
vintage sportscar racing, as well as a collection of really nice enthusiasts!
